Intel/SRCEA Undergrads Win Top Awards in 2015 RISE-UP Poster Competition at UCLA
In August 2015, the UCLA Center for Excellence in Engineering and Diversity (CEED) held its 11th Annual Research Intensive Series in Engineering for Underrepresented Populations (RISE-UP) Undergraduate Research Poster Competition. This year's award winners were all sponsored by Intel/SRCEA. Second place honors were awarded to Melissa Moz (above left), a continuing SRCEA URO student from last year who will be presenting at TECHCON 2015. Joining her in the winners circle were fellow URO students Michael Gervasoni (3rd Place), and Patricia McNeil (1st Place).

SRC Researcher and UCSB Professor Completes Great Divide Mountain Bike Route
John Bowers, a 61-year-old professor in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California Santa Barbara, finished this summer's Tour Divide race on the Great Divide route, riding 2,753 miles in under 28 days. In his honor, Unite to Light, a non-profit founded by Bowers, is distributing 2,753 low-cost, solar-powered desk lights to children in Africa who lack electricity.

The team—consisting of ECE Associate Professor Saibal Mukhopadhyay, his Ph.D. student Wen Yueh, ME Professor Yogendra Joshi, and his Ph.D. student Zhimin Wan—received the award at ISLPED 2015 on July 22 in Rome, Italy.
