SRC Checkpoint: Sustainability Day 2022
October 26, 2022
Today is Sustainability Day: a day to reflect on and recommit to sustainable practices throughout our lives. At SRC, we are committed to sustainability all year long, so today is a "checkpoint" for us. We want to make sure that our affiliations, actions, and initiatives align with sustainable goals. Here are a few of our achievements towards sustainable goals during the past year:
- We are proud to be a member of the IEEE International Symposium on Roadmapping Devices and Systems (ISRDS), ESH/Sustainability (ESH/S) focus team. The team is focused on developing a call to action for 4 main topics: product circularity, materials and the fab process, the supply chain, and operational and environmental sustainability (energy, water).
- Starting in the spring of 2022, we added both SRC’s Commitment to Sustainability and Broadening Participation Pledge into all active solicitations and award selections as key success criteria.
- Our active portfolio has 231 projects at nearly 70 universities that are aligned to either our ESH program or the quest for ICT Energy Efficiency. We have increased our investments aligned to our Commitment to Sustainability by ~$600k/yr. year-over-year.
- We created the new SRC Sustainable Future Award to celebrate the breakthroughs and progress being made each year. Our inaugural award was granted at TECHCON 2022 to Prof. Selma Mededovic of Clarkson University for her work on "Novel Electrical Discharge Plasma-based Process for the Treatment of Fab Wastewater."
- We signed AMO’s Energy Efficiency Scaling for 2 Decades (EES2) pledge to become a formal member of the DOE EES2 Roadmap. The goal is to improve the energy efficiency of microelectronics by 1000x over the next 2 decades (doubling every 2 years).
What about you?
