Aristotle Award Presentation TECHCON 2018

The Aristotle Award was authorized by the SRC Board of Directors in 1995 to recognize professors who best contribute to the development of the industry’s most valuable resource, its human resource. This award recognizes SRC-supported faculty whose deep commitment to the educational experience of SRC students has had a profound and continuing impact on their professional performance and, consequently, a significant impact for members over a long period of time.

The list of winners of the Aristotle speaks volumes about the quality of SRC researchers and the high standard set for SRC students. The awards have been made to some of the most exemplary university faculty in this country, and this year’s award continues that tradition. Professor Joerg Appenzeller from Purdue University is eminently qualified to receive the 2018 Aristotle Award.

Professor Appenzeller students repeatedly noted how Joerg breaks down extremely complex concepts into simple, understandable visualizations that captures the students’ intrigue and ignites their passion in the field. Joerg has demonstrated uncompromising rigor and integrity in conducting scientific studies and emphasizes the importance of this to his students. He has been an empowering mentor that encourages independent exploration and achievement. As a result, Joerg and his students’ research papers include those with high citation impact. 

Joerg develops researchers who are not only critical thinkers but also self-sufficient that have become leaders in the semiconductor industry. His funding from GRC, STARnet, NRI and our new nCORE program show the breadth and sustained excellence in research.
