Highlights

• SRC’s three primary research programs and the Education Alliance are individually branded. Serving the world’s industry, the Global Research Collaboration (GRC) now has 15 members and has research contracts with over 100 universities worldwide. The U.S. chip community and the Department of Defense’s research needs are supported by the Focus Center Research Program (FCRP), which leverages the strengths of more than 38 universities to scale CMOS to its theoretical limits. The Nanoelectronics Research Initiative (NRI) coordinates research at some of the top engineering schools in the U.S. to identify the next "information element" beyond the CMOS transistor.
• NRI grows rapidly, adding two new centers: the Institute for Nanoelectronics Discovery and Exploration (INDEX), a partnership with the states of Georgia and New York, headquartered at the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) in Albany, and the SouthWest Academy for Nanoelectronics (SWAN), a partnership with the state of Texas, headquartered at UT-Austin.
• An all-new student event, SRC Student Symposium 2006, is established. This conference was designed to take place during the year that SRC does not conduct TECHCON in order to provide a cost-effective student/industry networking event with outstanding technical presentations by students, combined with ample opportunities for research discussions, and interaction between students and industry participants.
• Nearly 1,000 students participated in GRC-funded research; over 500 participated in FCRP-funded research. Of students graduating in 2006, 60% of both GRC and FCRP graduates accepted employment in member organizations or are pursuing advanced degrees.
• During 2006, 14 SRC-sponsored U.S. and foreign patents are issued. This brings the total portfolio of SRC issued patents to 247. SRC’s significant patent portfolio supports both U.S. and international member company operations in numerous countries around the world.
