2020 Simon Karecki Award
This award is given in memory of Dr. Simon Karecki, who was a student in our Engineering Research Center program and an SRC Fellow. Simon made major contributions in the early years of this Center through his pioneering research in developing novel manufacturing technology for reduction of emission global warming gases in semiconductor manufacturing. In recognition of his outstanding contributions, friends and colleagues of Simon came together and created the Simon Karecki Fellowship Fund in his memory to encourage other talented young researchers in the pursuit of environmental research. Both Anna and Richard Karecki have long been dedicated to the Engineering Research Center program. They continue to consider all the recipients of this award to be part of their family and always welcome opportunities to engage with those who are as passionate about what they do as their Simon was.
SRC is proud to honor Paige Jacob with the 2020 Simon Karecki Award.
Paige is a graduate student in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Cornell University, working with Professor Damian Helbling. Before going to Cornell, Paige studied and obtained her undergraduate degree in environmental science at Marist College where she was a member of the honors program. She also minored in mathematics. In addition, Paige performed research for three years as an undergraduate and gained essential experience in experimental design, laboratory- and field-based data collection, and technical communication.
Paige has strong fundamentals as a researcher which is proven in her research productivity. She is also a co-author on two published peer-reviewed manuscripts, and is a co-author on one additional manuscript under preparation for peer-review. Ms. Jacob plans to continue her graduate research in the area of water quality. Paige is a well-rounded graduate student, intelligent, motivated, and passionate about environmental science and engineering. She has a tremendous track record as a student and is an engaged member of her community.
