Letter from the President and CEO

Dear Colleague,

For almost 40 years, the Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC) has been a proud and important catalyst behind both university-led innovative semiconductor research and the development of students in related undergraduate and graduate studies, making SRC a recognized leader in advancing STEM higher education.[1]

Earlier this year, in collaboration with academic, industry, and government thought leaders, we issued the 2030 Decadal Plan for Semiconductors.[2] This aggressive agenda will help us drive meaningful change in advanced information and communication technologies that seem impossible today. Together, our disciplined investment and shared commitment will allow all to benefit from improvements that respond to the five underlying seismic shifts identified in that ten-year plan.

However, as we look to unleash the next wave of semiconductor innovation and solve the enormous challenges facing our industry, we must be equally committed to these important elements of that success – the people and communities we create and nourish.

In the programs we lead, we must increase the participation of women and under-represented minorities as well as strike a balance between U.S. citizens and those from other nations, creating an inclusive atmosphere that unlocks the talents inherent in all of us.  By doing so, we will help build and expand a more inclusive talent pool for all of our members and our industry.

Today, we issue this 2030 Broadening Participation Pledge:

Throughout the decade, as SRC defines, selects, and manages its research and education programs, we will look to grow our student base, establish a balanced mix of bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D.-level initiatives, and create a more diverse and inclusive community.

We are making this pledge to publish our intentions and start the work to realize these goals. We will return, annually in early April, to share our success stories and progress against this very important ten-year initiative.
